Story so far
St James is a thriving and diverse family, but most people see our building before they see the faces. It is quite striking, the same age as most of Muswell Hill, but designed to stick out, on one of the highest points in London. It doesn’t let us hide! We love using its glorious space, to make a difference in our area.
Step inside and you’ll discover a lively church with a range of Sunday styles, and a ton of midweek events. The story begins back in the 1980s, under the visionary leadership of Michael Bunker, who brought together two local churches (St James, and St Matthews - which was down Coppetts Road), and created something new and exciting.
St James has grown and adapted over the years, and today we have groups for all ages and abilities, vibrant kids and youth events, loads of community support, and a range of musical and cultural styles. We gather to praise God, to learn, to encourage each other on Sundays, and also in homes all around Muswell Hill during the week.
And still today, we want to carry the good news about Jesus into the lives, homes, streets and workplaces of our great city. As our headline says, we want to live as Jesus lived - fully devoted to God and his plans, and to love as Jesus loved - full of compassion and joy.
Through that time we have constantly given people away, sometimes to support other churches locally which needed some help, and other times to start a church from scratch. And we have mission partners serving God and planting new churches all across the world.
And just when we thought we’d tried everything, we’ve stepped out online as well, to reach new generations, and people way beyond N10.
We’d love you join us and take part in the next chapter in our story. We’re all quite relaxed, so come as you are, and you’ll be right at home.
