Our Vision as a Youth and Kids Team is to ‘Partner with parents to make young disciples’. We do that in a variety of ways here at St James, but one of those is to run specific groups to help kids and young people engage with the gospel in a fun and deep way. You’ll find details of the different groups below for all aged 0-18. These are open to any child or young person, whether they would call themselves Christians or not. Do get in contact if you would like more information on any of them, and we hope to see your family soon!
Bumps and Babes is a group for expectant mums and parents/carers of babies. We meet in the back of church from 9.30-11am on Wednesday mornings. There will be a time to chat, a short thought for the day from the Bible and some singing.
Promiseland Junior (0-4s) takes place during the 10.30am service. We meet for the morning service in the main church building starting at 10.30am every Sunday. Registration opens at 10.15am just inside the main door.
We spend ten minutes in the service as a whole church family. You can then drop off your 0-2‘s in the Jimmy room and your 3-4s in the Centre (third part closest to the kitchen). The 0-2’s will play, sing and learn something from the Bible. The 3-4's will sing, do craft, play a game, and learn something from the Bible.
Contact Alice for more information.
Children aged 5-11
Promiseland (5-11s) takes place during the 10.30am service. We meet for the morning service in the main church building starting at 10.30am every Sunday. Registration opens at 10.15am just inside the main door. We spend ten minutes in the service as a whole church family. Then you can drop off your 5-11s in the Centre (section closest to the Easter garden) . We will sing, watch a drama that goes along with the teaching for that day, look at the Bible together, pray, do crafts and play a game.
Promiseland+ (children in R-Yr5 with additional needs)
Promiseland Plus meets in the Kids' office on Sundays at 10.30-11.30am.
Spaces are limited, so please contact Helen for more information and to book a place for the following Sunday.
Younger Youth Plus (Yrs 6-8 with additional needs)
We meet in the Youth office at 10.30am on Sundays, during the morning service. Registration opens at 10.15am just inside the main church door. We offer 1:1 support and have lots of sensory objects and music to engage the young people in God’s truth and love.
There is no Younger Youth Plus during major school holidays, or on the last Sunday of each month when we have all-age services.
If you have not been before and would like to come, please get in touch with Helen so we can make sure we can give your young person the support they need whilst in the group.
Younger Youth (Yrs 6-8)
We meet for the morning service in the main church building starting at 10.30am every Sunday. Registration opens at 10.15am just inside the main door.
We spend ten minutes in the service as a whole church family, then we will go down the corridor to the vicarage (there will be people to direct you). There we will play a game altogether, enjoy some engaging Bible teaching, discuss what we’ve learned in small groups, pray together, and then have some time to chill and play card games. Leaders will then bring the young people back up to the church to join their parents once the service has ended, after an hour or so.
The last Sunday of every month and during major school holidays we won’t leave the service for Younger Youth, but we encourage families to come to the services to enjoy worshipping together.
We meet 7-8.30pm on Fridays during term time in the Church Centre (entry through the bookshop) and the main church building. We’ll have time to chill together with cards games and table tennis, play a big game altogether, then enjoy an engaging video talk from the Bible with time to process on your own and in a small group.
Older Youth (Yrs 9-13)
We meet for The Gathering, which is our 6pm Sunday service, every Sunday during term time. The Gathering is set up café-style and the young people will sit in clusters with their small-group leader. It’s an informal, contemporary service with music, interviews, and real, thought-provoking Bible teaching. There will be time the talk for reflection and discussion in small groups during the service.
At 7.30pm we will then go next door to the Church Centre to spend a few minutes catching up with our small groups from the week and praying for each other before spending some time chilling then playing a game altogether. The evening will finish at 8.30pm.
Outside of the school term, we encourage the young people and their families to still come to The Gathering together.
We meet on Wednesdays 5-7pm at Dave’s flat (get in touch for address) during term time for some extra time to dig deeper into the Bible. The first hour we’ll have some food and play games together, then the second hour we’ll spend time delving into God’s Word and praying together.
We would much rather have you join us for the meetings so we can keep in touch, but if you can’t make it and need to catch up, you can watch our content on our St James Kids and St James Youth YouTube channels.
